Abstract

Zoonotic diseases, those transmitted from animals to humans, represent a significant threat to global public health, causing millions of deaths each year and resulting in significant economic losses. Studies have shown that their occurrence and increased incidence are related to climatic factors and anthropic action, especially the conversion of native environments to other uses. For example, habitat loss and fragmentation can affect disease incidence by altering the interactions, abundance and movement patterns of hosts, vectors, and people. In addition, the introduction of exotic species (such as Java - Pig) can represent a significant impact for some of these diseases, since these species can act as facilitators of some pathogens. In view of this, this postdoctoral proposal aims to fill the knowledge gaps of challenge 4 (zoonosis control), belonging to the Biota Synthesis project. The first objective of this project is the creation of conceptual models, which aim to understand the role of environmental factors and the introduction of exotic species in the propagation and risk of transmission of zoonotic diseases. For this, searches will be carried out for scientific articles on different data platforms. The second objective is the creation of an integrated database, using the concept of one health, on wild animals, vectors, hosts, and pathogens, through institutions linked to health and the Secretary of the Environment. Finally, predictive risk models will be created for different zoonotic diseases, in face of current and future scenarios of land use changes and climate changes, in urban and rural landscapes. The results of these models will support public policies for actions to prevent and control zoonotic diseases, focused on human, animal and environmental health. (AU)
