Abstract

The folding sequence control of origami-based mechanisms can be achieved with modular bi-stable origami-inspired mechanisms, as demonstrated in some examples of crawling soft robots and millipede types. Despite the large interest in this field, the principal bi-stable patterns rely on just a few well-studied origami crease patterns like Muira-Ori, kresling, and Waterbomb. An algorithmic approach to the design of origami crease patterns can help to generalize and automatize the process of design and makes it possible to design origami structures of arbitrary complexity for bi-stability. This work is focused on generalizing the project of folding sequence control by applying an algorithmic design approach to find out general bi-stable modules. (AU)
