Abstract

Several studies have shown that Food and Nutrition Insecurity (FNI) is closely associated with specific socioeconomic factors that contribute to greater social inequality and poverty. These determinants, together with FNI, can favor overweight in the population, showing that FNI is not only manifested by hunger and malnutrition, but could also contribute to a greater risk of obesity. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the occurrence of food and nutritional insecurity and the presence of more unfavorable socioeconomic factors on the severity of obesity in patients treated at the Obesity and Dyslipidemia outpatient clinic at Hospital das Clínicas de Ribeirão Preto, on a probabilistic sample of 68 individuals. Questionnaires will be applied to identify socioeconomic indicators. Food and nutrition insecurity will be assessed using the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA). The nutritional status will be identified from the application of the Body Mass Index (BMI) and the severity of obesity will be evaluated by obtaining the patients' neck circumference.
