Abstract

This project concerns the carrying out of the Research Internship Abroad (BEPE), which will be carried out at the University of Paris Nanterre, France, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Pierre Sauvêtre, professor at the institution also linked to SOPHIAPOL, a research unit in Sociology, Philosophy and Political Anthropology, between the months of April 2023 and July 2023. The main objective of this project is to try to find out, from the minutes of the Colloquium by Walter Lippmann held in Paris in August 1938, considered as the origin of the neoliberal current of thought, the connection between the ideas presented in the colloquium with those adopted by Brazilian economists and Argentine supporters of this current and who held important positions for the economic policy of their respective countries, such as ministries. Thus, this project is in line with the project developed by the fellow in Brazil, in which he is dedicated to studying the reception and appropriation of neoliberal ideas in Brazil and Argentina from economists. With this, we hope to clarify a little more the possible origins of this current of economic thought in both countries that is often mistakenly treated as late, that is, originating or gaining strength in the late 1970s and early 1980s; as well as tracing possible connections between the renewal of European and Latin American liberal thought, in view of the migration of economists of European origin such as Alexandre Kafka, adept of neoliberalism, who, upon migrating to Brazil, taught in economics courses at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and represented Brazil at the International Monetary Fund (IMF); and Alberto Benegas Lynch, who embraced these ideas, promoted conferences by names such as Ludwig Von Mises in Argentina, in addition to founding the Center for Studies on Freedom in the country.
