Abstract In this phd project the student will explore theoretical and experimental aspects of the interaction between optical and mechanical modes in waveguides and microcavities, leading to the goals BOM-1 and BOM-2 of the main project. Some of the waveguides that the student will use have beenrecently fabricated by current students in the group. In theoretical studies, the student will also benefit from some pre-existing simulation code in the group and also the open-source NumBAT (Numerical Brillouin Analysis Tool) developed by the Universities of Macquarie and Sydney, Australia.
