Abstract

We propose a Research Internship in the group of prof. Michal Lipson (Columbia University) during a six-month period (April 2023 -- September 2023). Michal Lipson's group is a pioneer and leader in the field of silicon photonics, and our groups already cultivate a fruitful collaboration exploring quantum properties of optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) integrated on-chip. We have recently measured the complete covariance matrix of the signal and idler beams generated on an integrated OPO. In those measurements, we have found a large excess of phase noise, which precluded the observation of entanglement. In this internship, the student will learn about the fabrication and design of the chips, and study ways to mitigate the extra phase noise. The new chips will be used in future quantum optics projects in our group in Sao Paulo. (AU)
