Abstract

This project focuses on exploring and enhancing the capabilities of degenerate optical parametric oscillators (DOPOs) in microring resonators, with a specific emphasis on random number generation (RNG) and the generation of squeezed light states.Fabricated near-field coupled silicon nitride microcavities, also known as photonic molecules, were tailored to operate in the normal group velocity dispersion regime and mitigate parasitic four-wave mixing (FWM) processes. This provides a platform for degenerate parametric oscillation, modifying the spectral characteristics of the ensemble without altering the geometrical parameters of the individual resonators. Initial investigations revealed significant temporal variability in DOPO amplitude, motivating a comprehensive study of temporal stability through theoretical analysis and experimental exploration of different pumping conditions. Furthermore, efforts are directed towards developing an all-optical RNG by interfering consecutive activations of the degenerate signal/idler pair. Additionally, the project aims to explore the generation of squeezed states of light and the potential for on-chip Ising machines by coupling multiple DOPOs in photonic molecules. This project not only advances fundamental understanding but also offers basis for the development of on-chip all-optical devices. (AU)
