Abstract

As a consequence of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity, studies with vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) have become essential to elucidate its possible role in reducing the risk and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases. However, despite positive results in epidemiological studies, clinical studies have shown conflicting results. The reason for these results may lie in interindividual genetic variability. In this context, this study aims to evaluate the intake of vitamin E in individuals residing in the city of São Paulo, investigating its potential to influence cardiometabolic mechanisms mediated by genetic variants. The study will use data from the 2015 São Paulo Health Survey. This is a cross-sectional, population-based study with a probability sample of residents of the city of São Paulo. Data from adult and elderly participants from the "ISA-Nutrition" (n = 600) who had food intake assessment and biochemical and genetic data collection will be used. Dietary intake data of vitamin E were obtained by 24 h dietary recall. Plasma ±-tocopherol concentrations, lipidogram and inflammatory profile will be evaluated. Prevalence analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms of SCARB1, CYP4F2, NKAIN3 and BUD13/ZNF259/APOA5 genes and their association with vitamin E intake and plasma profile will be performed. Multiple linear and logistic regression models will be used to test the association between the variables of interest. Analyses will be performed in RStudio software, considering 5% significance level and sample complexity.
