Abstract

The food crisis caused by global climate changes generates opportunities for the development of innovative biotechnological practices, expanding the food production capacity. Plants, microorganisms and soil have a delicate physicochemical and biological network of interactions that contributes to the success of agricultural initiatives. These relationships have been studied in depth through agroforestry systems and how these dynamics can be used to improve soil use and positively impact on socio economic conditions of rural communities. Deforestation on the Amazon region and the conversion of forest to pasture impoverishes the soil and worsen this scenario, aggravating food insecurity. However, the soil from specific areas of the Amazon, called dark soil, has the microbiological potential to contribute with the application of agrobioforestry sustainable systems. This evaluation will be carried out in a holistic view, encompassing the analysis of the microbial composition, its impacts on the growth of selected local plant varieties and the socio economics impacts for local cooperatives. It is expected that the application of the agroforestry model contributes to the maintenance of food production and improves the lives of local communities both economically and socially, through outreach and scientific communication.
