Abstract

Facing the context in which mediatization integrates the social structure in order to bring consequences to specific fields of action of social actors and the constant relationship of influence between these and the media instances, which may come to determine the success of claim actions, this research aims to understand how mediatization processes alter the visibility and mobilization strategically sought by social movements and counter-movements in contemporary society. Specifically, it seeks to: identify and describe the action repertoire of feminist movements and countermovements to disseminate their agendas and mobilize public opinion; analyze the communicational exchanges and interaction between feminist movements and countermovements around the opposition between their agendas; to reflect on the possibilities and contradictions of communicational exchanges imposed by the logic of mediatization in the work of social movements and feminist countermovements. The mediatization process creates the possibility of circulation and visibility of contents in order to mobilize and, likewise, equips other social subjects to act by positioning themselves against the feminist movement. Faced with this scenario, we intend to defend the thesis that the logic of mediatization manifests itself in the action repertoire of social movements and countermovements, and, in this way, contributes to the mobilization or demobilization around the agendas proposed by these social actors.
