Abstract

To properly harness the energy available in nature through a sustainable way is to build up humanity a chance for better future. The global warming and record carbon emissions require that efforts to develop sustainable technologies be intensified. The present work aims to help develop nationally the ability to better manufacture and study solid oxide fuel cells. These electrochemical devices can convert fuel as hydrogen, ethanol, methanol, and carbon monoxide into electricity through a sustainable and efficient process.More specifically, focusing on the use of Large Area Physical Laser Deposition (LA-PLD) to make thin films to work as diffusion barrier layers (DBLs) and prevent early cell degradation. In addition to using electrochemical characterizations such as potentiometry to measure the effects of the DBL in an operating cell. The quality of the thin films will be evaluated also in terms of its microstructure, using Scanning Electron Microscope, and X-Ray Diffraction to identify the desired crystalline phase.
