Abstract

This research aims to understand how the management of family farms is carried out by farmers who graduated from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) in the Bachelor's degree in Agroecology, the undergraduate program in Agronomy of Pronera (National Program for Education in Agrarian Reform), and the Master's Program in Agroecology and Rural Development (PPGADR). The qualitative research assumes that the productive efforts of family farmers are mainly focused on agricultural and livestock production. Administrative and financial management activities, for example, are carried out with minimal effort and informally whenever possible. Particularly when prices are determined by the market, whether for inputs or the sale of production. With limited bargaining power, farmers tend to focus on production management in order to gain a greater advantage, whether through better products, increased productivity, or reduced losses. It is not a lack of knowledge, but rather prioritizing what they can control the most - production.
