Abstract

Aim: The main objective of this study is to describe the epidemiological profile and the characteristics of ultrasound and childbirth data for women pregnant with twins who gave birth at the Hospital das Clínicas of FMUSP between 2005 and 2023. Additionally, we have secondary objectives that include comparing the epidemiological profile between pregnant women with twins and the twin newborns at HCFMUSP with those in the State of São Paulo during the same period. We also aim to describe epidemiological, clinical, and gestational characteristics, determine the prevalence of various fetal and maternal health conditions, and evaluate associations between chorionicity, obstetric complications, and perinatal outcomes. Inclusion Criteria: Data from women pregnant with twins who attended prenatal care, underwent ultrasound evaluations, and/or gave birth at HC-FMUSP from 2005 to 2023 will be included in the study. Sample Source: Data will be obtained from the Electronic Ultrasound Data Programs of the Obstetrics Clinic, the program of the Obstetrics Ward at HC-FMUSP, the MV Program of HC-FMUSP, and physical hospital records when necessary to supplement missing information in the electronic data programs. To record the obtained information, we will use the REDCap data platform (Research Electronic Data Capture). Sample Size: This retrospective study will include approximately 2,000 women pregnant with twins and 4,000 fetuses/concepts. Measures: The data will be analyzed, taking into consideration the chorionicity of the pregnancies, and we will seek to identify prognostic factors for twin pregnancies, considering maternal-fetal complications and their relationship with pregnancy outcomes, morbidity, and perinatal mortality.
