Abstract

The aim of this study will be evaluate the surface roughness and color change of enamel surfaces with initial caries lesions treated with resinous infiltrant Icon in different polishing protocols. 42 blocks of bovine enamel in the 4x4mm pattern will be obtained, which will be subjected to the demineralizing-remineralizing protocol (DE-RE) for eight days. Before and after the DE-RE cycle, Knoop hardness tester will be performed on the surface using a microhardness tester, and with mineral loss calculation obtained, groups will be randomized, followed by application of the infiltrant and polishing protocol for each group (n=14): I: Unpolished icon; IS: Icon with Sof-Lex® flexible disc polishing and IE: Icon with Eptex® silicon carbide strip polishing. Surface roughness and CIEL*a*b* color data obtained in with spectrophotometer will be carried out in four different periods: T0 (after application of the infiltrant), T1 (after initial polishing), T2 (after staining for 14 days in black tea), T3 (after late polishing). In each period, a sample of each group will be taken for scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The data obtained will be analyzed for homogeneity to determine the use of parametric or non-parametric methods, with a significance level set at 5%.
