Abstract The AdS/CFT correspondence and gauge/gravity dualities, in their "top-down"form, relate holographically string theory in a gravitational background with a quantum field theory on the boundary, relating strong vs. weak coupling. Its Penrose limit gives the pp wave correspondence, in which strings appear explicitly in the gravitational background, and spin chains appear in the field theory. The field theories, in particular N=4 SYM, dual to strings on $AdS_5\times S^5$,have interesting nontrivial deformations, like $T\bar T$ deformations, noncommutative, supersymmetric and integrable deformations. The Penrose limit, due to the simplicity of its endpoint, generically sheds light on the original holographic duality. We will use it to shed light on the nontrivial deformations of N=4 SYM. | |
