Abstract

The research project titled "Social Markers of Difference and Academic Success of University Students" is part of the larger project "Mental Health, Social Markers of Difference, and Academic Success: Investigating the Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on University Students" (Fapesp 2023/01615-0). The primary objective of this research is to systematically examine the theoretical and conceptual relationships between the concept of social markers of difference and their psychosocial expressions in university students. At first, the research will conduct a literature review and provide an overview of the current uses of the concepts of "social markers of difference," "intersectionality," and "social determinants of health" in the literature, highlighting their similarities and differences. Subsequently, the study will discuss psychometric data and findings from interviews, focusing on the correlations between markers such as race-ethnicity, gender, sexuality, territory, and socioeconomic class. Finally, the research aims to propose a new analytical category, "psychosocial markers of difference," which is both epistemically and methodologically consistent with Social Psychology, freeing it from concepts imported from other fields of knowledge.
