Abstract

Water security is a "strategic theme for development, autonomy, and national sovereignty" (Montenegro, 2022, s.p.). Moreover, it has multiple dimensions related to economic, societal, ecosystemic, and climatic aspects. Given the breadth of the topics addressed, the National Institute of Science and Technology for Water Security and Adaptive Management Observatory (ONSEADAdapta) involves the participation of over 80 researchers aiming to address water-related issues in an interdisciplinary manner. This Media Science project is part of the Communication, Art, and Culture axis of ONSEADAdapta, coordinated by Susana Oliveira Dias (scientific supervisor of this project). Its objectives are as follows: 1. Conduct an initial reconnaissance of the research comprising ONSEADAdapta, conducting video and audio interviews that will be edited into 10-minute pieces for monthly publication in the ClimaCom magazine; 2. Compile the images utilized and generated in ONSEADAdapta's research, such as aerial images, satellite images, maps, historical series, and microscopic images; 3. Conduct an audiovisual investigation of archival films revealing how water resources have been conceptualized throughout Brazil's recent history (20th and 21st centuries); 4. Create a final audiovisual work (documentary or video art) that brings together interviews and images with artistic propositions, encompassing the scientific communication perspectives of the ClimaCom magazine (ClimaCom, 2023), enriching research processes, diverse knowledge, and imagination, thereby questioning the "idea of communication based on a linear and hierarchical relationship between senders and receivers" (Montenegro, 2022, s.p.).
