Abstract

Distributed energy resources (DERs) are electrical energy generation or storage technologies located near the distribution system consumers. Despite their benefits, the high penetration of DERs imposes new challenges in the operation of electrical powersystems, requiring optimized management of the operation of such resources. However, optimization models that consider the different possibilities of controls in a scenario of high penetration of DERs tend to be computationally expensive, hence limiting itsapplicability during operation. The doctoral thesis project entitled "Despacho Ótimo de Recursos Energéticos Distribuídos em Sistemas de Distribuição" [Optimal Dispatch of Distributed Energy Resources in Distribution Systems] has already proposed models that are potentially applicable in the operation. This BEPE project proposal aims at the improvement of these methods, accelerating the process of understanding and implementing mathematical alternatives capable of reducing the solve time of optimal power flow (OPF)in large grids. This will be done through research activities that will be carried at theUniversity of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), in Spain, under the supervision of Prof. José M. Arroyo during a period of 7 months.
