Abstract

This research plan is part of the FAPESP/NSFC 2022/07974-0, entitled: "Synergistic effects of climate change and land use on carbon source and sink of Amazon Forest ecosystem". This project intends to increase the scale of representativeness of local measures to the regional scale, as well as assessing the relative importance of different processes in the interaction forest-atmosphere-clouds. The WRF-GHG model will be used for downscale for different land use and climate scenarios in Amazonian region. Simulations of deforestation and degradation in the Amazon with global numerical models for 50-year scenarios will serve as based scenarios for downscale for periods of 5 years. The regional models will be used to assess in how changes in land use impact on the carbon and water cycles. These simulations will generate a huge amount of data that will have to be analyzed with machine learning and conventional analysis of large series of specialized data and time series. The preparation of model runs, as well as the analysis and combination with observational data will be the main tasks.
