Abstract

The development of materials with bioactive properties, promoting regeneration and repair is a fundamental objective of current endodontics. Although commercial biomaterials are available, the use of pure calcium silicates is expensive, which limits further clinical application. Considering the experience of the research group in the area of endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry of Araraquara - UNESP of more than twenty years of studies and development of biomaterials, the synthesis of pure tricalcium silicate (through the sol-gel process) and the formulation of an experimental material (tricalcium silicate associated with the radiopacifier zirconium oxide) are in the development phase. Pilot studies were developed and improvements in the formulation were proposed. Therefore, this project aims to develop and evaluate a lower-cost tricalcium silicate repair biomaterial. After synthesis, the morphological characterization of the experimental cement will be carried out using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and High Resolution Microscopy (FEG). The structural properties of the nanoparticles, as well as their physical and chemical properties, will be determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The physicochemical properties of setting time, solubility, radiopacity and pH will be evaluated based on the ISO 6876/2012 standard. MTA Angelus will be used for comparison. The data will be statistically evaluated (±=0.05).
