Abstract

This research project consists in a historical study on the circulation of the audiovisual resources in Latin America from 1949 to 1961, based on the actions for education provided by the Tecnical Cooperation Program Point Four which was the United States of America plan for international technical assistance destined for underdeveloped countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America announced by president Henry Truman in 1949 with the aim of promoting the economic development of the peripherical countries in order to strengthen anti comunist governments and afirm the U.S. leadership in the world scenery. The study seeks to: a) prospect and investigate evidence of cooperation from Program Point Four towards the introduction and difusion of the audiovisual resources in education in the Latin American countries in the period from 1949-1961 ; b) identify the actors, the artifacts, institutions and means of the knowledge difusion involved in the circulation of audiovisual resources mediated by Point Four Program ; c) reconstruct the aspects of the history of school culture material considering the representations and the knowledge built on the audiovisual resources by the actors involved in the Point Four Program ; d) Discuss the question of pedagogical knowledge transfer in the spheres of the international aid programs such as Point Four program and its implications towards the comprehension of the transnational circulation of education models. The investigation is founded on the transnational perspective and dialogue with the history of school culture material and with de Cultural History. To carry out the research we shall use, as sources, the records produced by the regulatory agencies of the Point Four Program which are found in archives localized in the U.S., specially in the Library of Congress and the National Archives.
