Abstract

In the timeframe of our project (1948-1978), cultural journalism occupied a large space in Brazilian periodicals, not only for the dissemination of information about artistic and cultural agendas, but also to foster debates and form new audiences for modern and contemporary art. This undergraduate research will address articles on visual arts published during the indicated period in Jornal do Brasil and O Globo, important media outlets in Rio de Janeiro and with national repercussions. More specifically, it will collect and analyze articles written by Harry Laus, who worked for Jornal do Brasil between 1963 and 1967, and Vera Pacheco Jordão, who wrote regularly for O Globo. Laus and Jordão, based on their work in the press, reported on artistic events in Brazil and around the world, contextualizing exhibitions, artworks and art objects, and also collaborating in the promotion of artists and movements that they considered innovative or relevant.
