Abstract

The present project aims to experimentally validate optimized composite laminates for aeronautical engineering applications, focusing on reducing weight and increasing mechanical efficiency. The project emphasizes a discrete variable-stiffness composite methodology that explores the arrangement of plates in square patches with distinct orientations, assembled to form unique parts. This approach allows for the customization of structural properties without requiring complex manufacturing processes, as seen in continuous variable-stiffness laminates. The research involves the fabrication of prototypes using carbon fiber/epoxy composites and conducting experimental tests, including modal analysis, bending, and buckling tests. These results will be compared with numerical simulations previously carried out using ANSYS and genetic algorithms implemented in Python. Tests will be conducted under various boundary conditions, such as free and fixed supports, to assess discrepancies and refine theoretical models. The methodology includes steps such as numerical optimization based on orientation angles, the fabrication of specimens in compliance with ASTM standards, and a detailed analysis of experimental results. Preliminary findings indicate that manipulating the angles in the patches allows for controlling natural frequencies, minimizing resonance risks, and improving structural performance.
