Abstract

Wheat consumption in Brazil is high, making it one of the main inputs used in the food industry. However, nearly 50% of this commodity is imported, as domestic production struggles to meet demand due to fluctuations in productivity in recent years. One of the factors affecting wheat productivity in Brazil is barley yellow dwarf disease, caused by the Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV), with aphids serving as its transmission vector. In this context, this study aims to enhance the Trap System program, which is used for monitoring and controlling insects (including aphids) that impact wheat production, as well as their natural predators. Remote sensing techniques will be integrated into the software, along with climate data, to identify regions more susceptible to vector population surges due to climatic variations. This will enable producers to anticipate and mitigate pest outbreaks using biological control measures, reducing the likelihood of significant crop damage and minimizing the need for chemical inputs.
