Abstract

This project has the long-term goal of preparing for the future use of the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT), a mega telescope that will be one of the most important infrastructures for the Brazilian community in the coming decades. To this end, we are using data from the ongoing S-PLUS survey, which collects images every night with the Brazilian robotic telescope T80-Sul and a wide-field camera, aiming to observe an area of the sky covering 9300 square degrees in 12 bands (7 narrow-band and 5 broad-band filters). This provides a valuable dataset for studying everything from solar system objects and stars to quasars and cosmology. One of the extragalactic niches of S-PLUS is mapping stellar populations and nebular emissions across the entire optical extent of galaxies. This project aims to create 1000 galaxy cubes in different environments, automating the process from start to finish, including data retrieval from splus.cloud, cleaning, filtering, masking, determination of line maps and parameters, for studies of stellar populations in different environments. An immediate application will be determining the resolved properties of galaxies in the outer regions of four galaxy clusters that will be studied in detail: Hydra, Antlia, Abell 119, and Abell 168.
