Abstract

1,3,4-Oxadiazoles have shown several biological activities, such as anti-HIV, antihypertensive and antimicrobial. Thus, the development of new methods for the synthesis of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles has been the focus of several research groups. Although different reaction conditions are described, in the vast majority of cases, hydrazide derivatives are used as starting material. The objectives of this project are the synthesis of 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives using CO2 as renewable starting material, under heterogeneous catalysis and microwave irradiation, and evaluation of the biological activity of the obtained compounds. For the synthesis of new 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives, aliphatic and (hetero)aromatic acyl hydrazides will initially be prepared from esters or amides and hydrazine. Next, different heterogeneous catalysts will be tested to react with carbon dioxide, such as zeolites, silica and amberlyst. The synthesized products will undergo biological tests focused on the search for compounds with diverse biological activities, such as antiparasitic and antiviral. The tests will be carried out in partnership with the Center for Research and Innovation in Biodiversity and Pharmaceuticals (CIBFar) at IFSC-USP.
