Abstract

This research project aims to develop a novel reaction-diffusion system to facilitate the localized self-assembly of supramolecular hydrogels with defined macroscopic structures for advanced biomedical applications. Supramolecular hydrogels offer significant potential for drug delivery, tissue engineering, and biosensing due to their tunable properties and biocompatibility. By utilizing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrates loaded with hydrochloric acid (HCl), we will control the localized formation of hydrogels through the diffusion of the acid catalyst. This method will allow for precise spatial control over hydrogel growth, enabling the creation of complex, patterned structures. The hydrogels will be characterized for their mechanical, chemical, and structural properties using techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). Furthermore, the biocompatibility and drug delivery capabilities of the hydrogels will be evaluated through in vitro and in vivo studies. The anticipated outcomes include the development of hydrogels with enhanced functionality for biomedical applications, contributing to the advancement of therapeutic and diagnostic technologies. This project aims to establish a versatile platform for the fabrication of tailored supramolecular hydrogels, paving the way for innovative solutions in the biomedical field.
