Abstract

Given the increasing prevalence of non-communicable cardiovascular diseases and their association with chronic low-grade systemic inflammation, it is essential to investigate potential strategies for assessing and managing this condition. Diet has received considerable attention due to the pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties of foods, nutrients, and bioactive compounds. This study aims to validate the index resulting from the systematic review, properly registered on the PROSPERO platform with registration number CRD42021254466, and further meta-analysis, which are part of the main project "Development and validation of an index to evaluate the inflammatory profile of the diet in the Brazilian population and another Latino population" (FAPESP #2024/00534-0). The project has been conducted aiming to develop a new dietary index to assess the inflammatory profile of diet with full applicability to Latino populations, generated based on the mentioned systematic review and further meta-analysis. The generated index will be calibrated in ISA-Nutrition 2015 data. For index validation in another Latino population, the PROSPECT Study (Puerto Rico Observational Study of Psychosocial, Environmental, and Chronic Diseases Trends) - a population-based study that database comprehends dietary, sociodemographic, biochemical, anthropometric, and morbidity data - will be used to analyze the predictive value and assess the sensitivity and specificity. The validation based on the PROSPECT study data will enhance and strengthen the development and validation of the index, which aims to be applicable to different Latino populations, thus providing information to perform statistical models to test associations as in ISA-Nutrition 2015.
