Abstract

This master's project aims to explore the representation of perceptions of sexualities in Brazilian indigenous communities, particularly in the context of alternative media, recognizing the vital importance of these aspects for the analysis of cultural diversity and intercultural interactions. Such perceptions often diverge substantially from prevailing views in Western society, requiring a sensitive and informed approach. The study proposes to investigate the central role of communication in the accurate and non-stereotypical representation of these perceptions, highlighting the urgency of portraying the cultural and traditional nuances related to gender and sexuality present in indigenous communities. To this end, a bibliographical review will be adopted, supported by the analysis of traditional content and narratives. The results of this project aim to contribute to an in-depth and respectful understanding of indigenous perspectives on gender and sexuality issues, fostering an informed dialog and respect for indigenous gender identities and sexual orientations within the media. In addition, it is hoped that the results can support the formulation of more inclusive and culturally sensitive editorial policies, as well as serving as an instrument for raising public awareness about the diversity of identities present in Amerindian cultures.
