Abstract

This project is part of a larger inquiry developed during the years of 2024 and 2025 so far, aiming to comprehend the counter-hegemonic ways to study, investigate and practice architecture and art through proceeds such as montage, collage, assemblage and bricolage. After the analysis of these proceeds as recognized alternative practices during the first half of XX's century, the current research found, at the utopian architectural groups in the 1960's, a strong use of these same proceeds, applied to a more digital world, to make critical architecture. Therefore, this RIA project seeks to investigate the performance of the experimental and utopian architecture collective Archigram, created in 1961 and then based at the Architectural Association School of Architecture of London (AA), proposing not only to do a historical analysis of how this collective practiced counter-hegemonic architecture using counter-hegemonic proceeds, but also proposing to investigate the reverberations of this collective in contemporary media practices at London architecture schools, collectives and institutions. For that, the Centre for Research Architecture (CRA) in the Department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, at London, is the institution that better suits the critical approach profile to host such a research project.
