Abstract

Bee diversity of Neotropical region is in large portion composed by species that collect oil on flowers. These species belong to three tribes: Centridini, Tapinotaspidini and Tetrapediini. Among these tribes, Tapinotaspidini represents the most diverse group in number of genera and in biological characteristics. The phylogeny of the tribe Tapinotaspidini is essential for the delimitation and diagnosis of its genera and the understanding of the evolution of biological characters. Previous phylogenetic analyses of the tribe using morphological characters did not provide a conclusive result. The main objective of the present project is to carry out a phylogenetic analysis of the tribe Tapinotaspidini using morphological and molecular data. Characters from internal and external morphology of adults and sequences of the genes 28S and elongation factor 1-alfa will be used for the phylogenetic analyses. Additional products of this project are the taxonomic revisions of the genera Arhysoceble, Trigonopedia e Xanthopedia and the biogeographic analyses of the South American open areas. The phylogenetic hypothesis obtained for the tribe will allow the discussion of the biogeographic pattern and the evolution of the biological characters as nesting habits, oil collecting behavior and parasites associated.
