Abstract

Salmonellosis outbreaks have been frequently associated with eggs and poultry consumption, although; in the last years an increase in the case number of human infections related to pork consumption occurred. The monitoring of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials in Salmonella strains isolated from animals have been described in various countries seeking the prevention of multidrug resistance and to evaluate the spread risk of resistance genes to human being. The occurrence of Salmonella multidrug resistant in livestock animals are increasing over the world in the last years and few studies have been done looking to the multidrug resistant phenotype and the associated genes in Salmonella isolated from pigs in Brazil. By this reason, the goal of present study is characterize Salmonella enterica strains isolated from carrier and sick pigs about the antimicrobial resistance profile and presence of antimicrobial resistance genes.
