Abstract

Colistin has been frequently used as an alternative to control Gram negative bacteria multidrug resistant that affect humans. In veterinary medicine colistin became important in prevention and control of post weaning diarrhea in pigs. E. coli strains resistant to this antimicrobial have been appearing in diagnostic labs; however, the methods used nowadays by these labs are not the most indicated by international authors to evaluate the resistance to this drug. In the present study, 120 strains of E. coli isolated from weaned pigs, positive to virulence factor related to diarrhea, will be selected. These strains will be tested to colistin resistance through disk diffusion assay and the minimal inhibitory concentration of drug will be determinate using broth microdilution test. (AU)
