Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate and to compare the repair and strength of the bone tissue around the porous cylindrical implants which will be made of powder metallurgy. Histological analysis, histomorphometric analysis, and mechanical test will be carried. The materials used will be: powder of commercially pure titanium, oil ether, and polyethylene presenting granule with diameter between 250μm and 350μm. The implants will be divided in three groups according to the percentage of polyethylene presented. That percentage could change from 10% to 30%. Following the implants will be characterized by means of metallographic analysis and they will be submitted to a compression strength test to evaluate their mechanical property. Afterwards the implants will be placed in thirty rabbits, which will receive three porous implants, being one of each group, in the right and left tibia. Fifteen rabbits, which will be selected randomly, will be sacrificed in 08 and 12 weeks after the surgery. The animals will be subdivided in two groups, being that six rabbits will be submitted to the histological and histomorphometric analysis to evaluate the new bone formation in the implant-bone interface and nine rabbits will be submitted to push-out test to check the fixation of implants to bone. The data obtained from the histomorphometric analysis, push-out test, and compression strength test will be submitted to ANOVA test and TUKEY test.
