Abstract

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) are originated from bone marrow and can be isolated from peripheral blood, bone marrow or umbilical cord blood. These cells are not completely differentiated and can help form new vessels or remodel injured vessels. These cells have an important whole in neovasculization of tissues that suffered ischemia, because they are able to promote re-endothelization after vascular injury and reduce of neointima formation. Several factors are involved in the amount of EPC in the organism. Studies have demonstrated that lesions in the endothelium, like myocardial infarction and physical exercises can increase the number of EPCs circulating in peripheral blood and that diseases like atherosclerosis, diabetes, cigar smoking decrease the number of these cells in peripheral blood decreasing the ability of endothelial recovery after injury. Flow cytometry is a technique largely used in oncology,hematology and immunology. This technique is used to quantify, and classify several different types of cells and is very used in the diagnostic of several pathologies. In our work we are going to use flow cytometry to to quantify the number of EPC in peripheral blood of normal mice or ApoE animals with induce atherosclerosis submited or not to arterial injury and to exercise. We are going to use 6 groups of mice group 1- wild type; 2- wild type with arterial injury 3- ApoE with induce atherosclerosis 4- ApoE with induce atherosclerosis and artherial injury 4- wild type with arterial injury and exercise and 6 ApoE with induce atherosclerosis wiath injury and exercise, with these work we plan to established the number of EPC in mice peripheral blood and the influence of execise in the recovery of arterial injury.
