Abstract

Taking as clipping the paulista médium sized city of Ribeirão Preto, we analyze how technological innovations and changes in the locational patterns of commercial establishments and services result (or not) in alterations in urban structuring and intraurban centrality, as much as these processes. We point out that centrality is not defined by location, but by joints between locations, being expressed by spatial relationships and interactions. In this sense, the role of flows in the dispersion and polarization of actions is what determines the centrality (WHITACKER, 2003). From the technicalscientific informational environment, the techniques install a new dynamic, making the dissemination of information a key factor for companies, thus reinforcing the exchange of material and immaterial flows, which become juxtaposed or overlapping. In this way, we aim to analyze the centrality in a double process: a) concentration of activities and uses and occupation of the soil (quantitative and qualitative component) and the informational density (qualitative and quantitative component), through an Information Density Index for (WHITACKER, 2003), which in our case was composed of indicators such as the use of commercial processes related to telematics and also social networks and applications; b) in a double and complementary analytical perspective: the density of the territory (SANTOS, 1996); and the informational density of enterprises.
