Abstract

The present project of research is a continuation of the master's level research, which in our qualification exam, occurred in December 2015, was indicated to direct PhD. With this propose we have the aim to analyze the centre of medium-sized cities, in special Marília, Presidente Prudente and São Carlos, starting of a dual perspective: the consolidated centre and the main centre. Emerged and consolidated into compact cities so far, these centres exhibit, under certain circumstances, that still have high symbolic and material value, being representative the agglomeration of activities and the competition for its location, whether in relation to commercial and services use and residencial, Linked to changes in capital accumulation, this scenario had important changes when the production of urban space was marked, from the second half of the twentieth century, the emergence of new central areas, contributing to the formation of polycentric cities, with changes in logic economic and spatial practices of consumption, accompanied by redefinitions of the centre to the new territorial divisions of labor, linked to processes that are multi-scalar. Analyzing this cities with these centres (consolidated centre and principal centre) territorially matched, or not, we propose, an analytical process of intraurban centrality in polycentric cities, lined an analysis temporal and spatial, from these perspectives, considering, the materialization of the time in the city, while preexisting condition, and the new central areas, which exhibit a competition and complementarity relationship each other and with what has been achived and what is denominated consolidated centre. Also compose our propose the understanding of that the consolidated centre, while roughness, conditions of contemporary process and the actual labor territorial division, consisting of inertia factor in urban structure which present territorial matching between consolidated centre and principal centre, but also on those in which is not noticed, at least in preliminary analysis. Then, itis important to inquire their paper, by analysis of forms, contents, economic logics, spatial practices and government interventions. This understanding are articulate a comprehension that the principal centre just it can be identified in reference, considering the spatial structure entirety, but, especially, other central areas, or other centres. The three cities of our territorial clipping are similar which other in relation to in number of inhabitants and in intensity of growth, but have different papers of consolidated centre in their polycentric urban structure.
