Abstract

It is a dissertation that aims, based on an approximation of the work Don Quixote de la Mancha by the Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes, first published in 1605, to think of the concept of anachronism as a heuristic possibility for history. In the dialogue between image theory and contemporary aesthetics, especially through the works of Walter Benjamin, Gilles Deleuze, Georges Didi-Huberman and Jacques Rancière, we seek to demonstrate how they survive in Don Quixote two different images of time, one medieval and eschatological, which we call imago cosmos, and another baroque and infinite, which we call imago mundi. We believe that the tension between these two images of time not only permeates but also constitutes what is widely considered the first modern novel. Continuing with the presence of Don Quixote in Western literature, which we call imagequixote, we seek to trace the survivals of the Knight of the Sad Figure to Modernism. In this sense, this research seeks to understand how Don Quixote can be read not only as an ironic criticism of the backwardness of chivalric society in 17th century Spain, but also as a symptom of a historical change that is expressed, in a singular way, a certain dialectical image of the different temporal rhythms immanent to the work Don Quixote: a disjunctive synthesis of medieval and modern time, in which reminiscences, erasures, returns and leaps, constitute the temporal multiplicity of a necessarily non-linear historical time. From these questions, we try to point to the hypothesis of a heterochrony as a reconfiguration of historical time in terms of a pluralism of temporal rhythms. (AU)
