Abstract

This research sets out to investigate awareness in Clarice Lispector's A paixão segundo G.H. and Simone de Beauvoir's Les Belles Images. The main objective is to compare the two works, demonstrating how such process takes place for the protagonists of the novels in question, encompassing it since its origin (existential hapax), its course, and in which aspects these characters change their way of thinking the social condition in which they are inserted and the female existential condition. In both works the authors discuss the coming to awareness of women, as they immerse themselves in the process of contesting their destinies in the face of a patriarchal, oppressive and bourgeois society. The following methodological procedures were used: review and literary analysis of Lispector's and Beauvoir's narratives; review of the authors' critical fortune; discussion of the elements that make up the existentialism and the feminism present in those works; establishment of parameters for the comparison between the two works. To this end, the corpus of the research is restricted to the novels A paixão segundo G.H., by Lispector, and Les Belles Images, by Beauvoir. (AU)
