Abstract

In Brazil, the biggest and more complex cities, like the metropolises, and the medium-sized cities, present a deepening of the socio-spatial differentiation that point out to a constitution of the socio-spatial fragmentation. This process stems, among others elements, from the brazilian cities are submitted to the perverse logics of the enlarged reproduction and infinite from the capital and to the neoliberalism dictates, doing with what the urban space, increasingly, becomes merchandise, changing, therefore, the principles and the meaning of the right to the city. We sought to understand, by means of the analysis of the spatial practices of the low purchasing power citizens and peripheral, how the socio-spatial logic fragmentary structures and consolidates itself, in opposition to the assumptions of the right to the city. In this way, the process of sociospatial fragmentation was analysed from the empirical dimension of the urban mobility, which is inseparable of the urban accessibility. Linked to her, we adopt, too, the empirical dimensions of the consumption, the leisure and the labour. For the research, we have selected the medium-sized city of Ribeirão Preto, located in the State of São Paulo, which, based on several researches already done, present an intensification of the socio-spatial differentiation that could point out to the socio-spatial fragmentation. The methodological procedures that guided the research are: 1) bibliographic review; 2) field works; 3) netnography; 4) semi-structured interviews; 5) assessment of the public transport; 6) delimitation of the commercial and service areas of Ribeirão Preto and of "Cristo Redentor" housing development, which is the privileged area in the research. The research is linked to the Thematic Project entitled "Socio-spatial fragmentation and brazilian urbanization: scales, vectors, rhythms, forms and contents - FragUrb", financed by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP). By the lens of urban mobility, privileged for the reading of the socio-spatial logic fragmentary, we have identified trend of deepening of the socio-spatial differentiation that could conduct to a constitution of the socio-spatial fragmentation. We highlight, still, that the reading of the process was made from a small portion of the city e of the daily life of citizens that participated of the different methodological approaches, that revealed that the displacements periphery - downtown are still important structuring of the use of their daily times.
