Unearthed in 1992, the so-called Milan Papyrus (P.Mil.Vogl. VIII 309), dating from the end of the 3rd century BC, revealed a collection of 112 Greek epigrams, some of which completely preserved, distributed in nine thematic sections identified by titles. According to recent studies on Greek epigrammatic poetry, the collection, credited to the Macedonian poet Posidippus of Pella (c. 315-240 BC), is the oldest surviving copy of a Hellenistic poetry book. This dissertation presents a full translation of the epigrams and fragments ascribed to Posidippus in that corpus, preceded by an introductory study on the epigram genre and the poet. It also provides a translation of the other nearly 30 poems preserved under his name, most of them transmitted via the Greek Anthology, in order to present, for the first time in Portuguese, a comprehensive picture regarding the work of one of the most prominent epigrammatists of the Hellenistic period (323-31 BC) (AU) | |
