has technical degree in Mechanical Drawing (1990) and Machine Projects (1991). He is Electrical Engineer by Sao Paulo State University (UNESP-1998), has Master's degree in Electrical Engineering in Politechnical School of Sao Paulo University (USP-2000) and is PhD in Electrical Engineering by Sao Paulo State University (USP-2006). He is full professor on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at the Sorocaba campus of the Sao Paulo State University (UNESP), supervisor of the Electrical Engineering Graduate Program at Unesp, and supervisor of the Education Graduate Program at UFRGS. His research focus is Robotics, with special interests in: machine consciousness, machine learning, artificial intelligence, control and automation as well as in the interface between these fields and social demands (in Education, Arts, Science Dissemination and Assistive Technologies). He was member of the Artificial Intelligence Committee of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) 2008-2010, and Robotics committee of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) 2006-2008 and 2008-2010. He was also chair of the robotics area at Campus Party Brazil (2007-2010), chair of the Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR-2009/2010) and coordinator of the "The Open Robot Project". He was awarded with the "Rumos Itaú Cultural" award in cybernetic art / robotics art that built a humanoid robot capable to recite texts inspired in the work of Shakespeare. He was General Chair of the RoboCup 2014 World Cup, that took place for the first time in Brazil with official support of Brazilian Ministry of Sports and Paraíba State Government. He is currently the chair of the Robotics committee (CER) of the Brazilian Computing Society (SBC). He was the vice director of the Sorocaba Campus of UNESP (2013-2019), and he is the Director of the Sorocaba Campus of UNESP (2017-2021). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
