Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). Campus São Paulo. Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

I graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in 1992 and served as a Medical Lieutenant in the Brazilian Army in 1993. I completed a residency in Internal Medicine at SUS-Hospital Heliópolis in 1994, followed by another residency in Internal Medicine in 1995 and in Endocrinology and Metabolism from 1996 to 1998, all at the Escola Paulista de Medicine (EPM) of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp). I obtained my Master's degree (CAPES, 2000) and Doctorate (FAPESP, 2004) in Medicine, with a focus on Clinical Endocrinology, from EPM/Unifesp. My Sandwich Doctorate (PDEE) was conducted at the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Utah, USA, in 2003, where I studied the genetic basis of Thyrotoxic Periodic Paralysis, identifying genetic variants in a new potassium channel (Kir2.6) in genetically susceptible patients. After that, I pursued a Post-Doctorate in Developmental Biology at the University of California, San Francisco, from 2004 to 2006. I served as co-editor of the Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism from 2007 to 2010 and as vice-president of the Basic Endocrinology Department of the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM) from 2009 to 2011. I also held the position of vice-chair of the Biochemistry Department at EPM/Unifesp from 2010 to 2011. In 2015, I became a Full Professor (Livre Docente) in the Discipline of Endocrinology at the Department of Medicine. Since 2011, I have been the chief preceptor of the Adolescent-Adult Transition Endocrinology outpatient clinic at Hospital São Paulo (HSP)/University Hospital (HU) of EPM/Unifesp. I have coordinated various research projects in Molecular and Translational Endocrinology, currently focused on Differences of Sex Development (DSD) and health promotion for the Intersex population. In 2017, we founded the Study, Research, Extension, and Assistance Center for Trans People, Professor Roberto Farina (TransUnifesp Center / NTU), of which I was the coordinator until 2021. I served as Adjunct Pro-Rector for Extension and Culture at Unifesp from 2017 to 2021. Currently, I coordinate the Human Identification Laboratory (LabIH) at the Center for Forensic Archaeology and Anthropology (CAAF/Unifesp) and continue as the preceptor for multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary care for Trans and Intersex individuals in outpatient clinics linked to HU/HSP. Additionally, I have supervised undergraduate research students, Master's, Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral students related to the graduate programs in Molecular Biology (CAPES 7) and Endocrinology and Metabolism (CAPES 5). I was a member of the University Council and the Congregation of EPM/Unifesp from 2021 to 2023, and I was elected director of EPM/Unifesp for the 2023-2027 term. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
