Birthplace: Brazil

Arlene G. Corrêa earned her M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1988 under the supervision of Professor Ursula Brocksom, and her Ph.D. in 1991 with Professor Timothy J. Brocksom, both at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Brazil. Between 1988 and 1990, she completed a research internship in the group of Professor Andrew E. Greene at the University of Grenoble Alpes, France. In 1996, she joined the group of Professor Paul A. Wender at Stanford University, USA, as a visiting scholar. She is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UFSCar. Her research in medicinal chemistry focuses on the synthesis of bioactive natural products and their analogs, employing combinatorial technologies and principles of green chemistry. Her work targets potential treatments for tropical diseases. In addition, her group has made significant contributions to chemical ecology, particularly in the isolation, identification, and synthesis of insect pheromones. Professor Corrêa is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ). She also serves as Director of the Centre of Excellence for Research in Sustainable Chemistry (CERSusChem). In recognition of her contributions to organic synthesis and the advancement of women in science, she received the Brazilian Meeting on Organic Synthesis (BMOS) Award in 2024 and the ACS-SBQ Brazilian Women in Chemistry Award in 2025.
