Rubens Russomanno Ricciardi

Rubens Russomanno Ricciardi, composer, conductor, philosopher of the arts, orchestrator/arranger and pianist, is a full professor in the Department of Music at the Ribeirão Preto Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters (FFCLRP) of the University of São Paulo, and is a full advisor for the Postgraduate Programme in Cultural Studies (research line Critique of Culture / Critical Poíesis) at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH) also at USP. With a degree in Music from the School of Communications and Arts (ECA) of the University of São Paulo and a specialisation in Musicology from the Humboldt University of Berlin, his academic career includes a Master's degree (dissertation on Hanns Eisler), a Doctorate (thesis on Manuel Dias de Oliveira), a Livre-docência (thesis on Musical Poetics) and a competition for Full Professor (Performance in Conducting/Piano) at ECA-USP. His lines of research are 1) Philosophy of the Arts and Criticism of Culture - Critical Poiesis and 2) Processes of artistic development: Performance in Brazilian Music - history, interpretation-execution, compositional and editorial processes. Founder of the USP Music Course in Ribeirão Preto, with its pioneering bachelor's degree in Viola Caipira/Brasileira, he is also the founder and artistic director of Ensemble Mentemanuque (a group dedicated to contemporary music and the reconstruction of the memory of Brazilian music) and USP Filarmônica (an orchestra of undergraduate students on USP scholarships), always at the interface of artistic extension with teaching and research. At USP, he is also the professor responsible for the Gilberto Mendes New Music Festival, as well as the coordinator and founder of the Research Centre for Performance Sciences in Music (NAP-CIPEM) at the Arts Memory Centre, the USP-Música-Criança Project (with centres in Ribeirão Preto and São Joaquim da Barra) and the USP Concerts series in São Carlos (Theatre Lobby on Campus II) and Ribeirão Preto (Pedro II Theatre), Filô Direito has a concert at FDRP-USP and academic projects with opera and symphonic ballet at the USP Campus Theatre in Ribeirão Preto. His symphonic work Candelárias was awarded a prize in Mexico. He has published articles and book chapters in Brazil, Portugal and Germany. His chamber and symphonic compositions have been performed in music centres in Brazil, North America (Canada, USA and Mexico) and Europe (Spain, Switzerland, Italy, France and Germany). He is a reviewer for FAPESP. The books The Solfas of Mogi das Cruzes (2022), published by Itaú Rumos, and Against Neoliberal Identitarianism - an essay on Critical Poiesis in the Apology of the Arts (2023), published by Editora Contracorrente, stand out in his bibliography.
