Head of the Synthesis Division within the Research and Development Department at Salgema Indústrias Químicas S/A, Maceió, Alagoas, Brazil, from September 1989 to June 1995.Full Professor since January 2011. Authored over 130 scientific publications (h-index 39, 4,767 citations Google Scholar). Supervised 50 masters and doctoral theses, 25 postdoctoral research projects, and numerous undergraduate research projects, both nationally and internationally. Director of the Division of Organic Chemistry of the Brazilian Chemical Society (20022004). Head of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, University of Campinas (UNICAMP), during the terms 20002002, 20022004, 20062008, and 20182020. Advisor to the Vice Provost for Research at UNICAMP from 2013 to 2017. Recipient of the Zeferino Vaz Academic Recognition Award (UNICAMPs highest distinction in research) in 2012.Recipient of the Nicea Quintino Amauro Award, granted by the Center for Afro-Brazilian Studies of the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas in 2025. Awarded the Diploma of Gratitude and the Civic Merit Medal "XV de Setembro Ordem de Tatuiby" by the City Council of Limeira, São Paulo. Serves as Pro-rector for Outreach, Sports, and Culture at UNICAMP (20212025).Regional Coordinator (Southeast) of the Forum of Pro-Rectors of Public Higher Education Institutions (2024present). Currently serving as Executive Vice President (Vice-Rector) of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) for the 20252029 term. Expertise in Chemistry, with an emphasis on Organic Synthesis. Research focuses include mechanistic studies and synthetic applications of the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction, synthetic organic chemistry, organocatalysis, asymmetric synthesis of pharmaceuticals and biologically active natural products, and chemical waste management. In this undergraduate research project, we intend to evaluate the behavior of Morita-Baylis-Hillman in halo-etherification reactions aiming at the formation of polysubstituted 3- and 4-membered heterocycles. We also intend to evaluate the selectivity for the formation of epoxides and oxetanes and the diastereoselectivity attained, specifically on the generation of epoxides. (AU)

This project of research is aimed at exploring new applications for a new bi-functional catalyst.
