Ohara Augusto is Full Professor at the Biochemistry Department, Chemistry Institute, University of São Paulo. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Biochemistry from the same institution. She did postdoctoral studies at the University of California Berkeley and University of California, San Francisco. Her research interests have always been focused on the understanding of the multiple roles of radicals and oxidants in physiology and pathophysiology; her specialties include the biochemistry of oxidants and free radicals, kinetics and mechanisms of redox enzymes, oxidant and antioxidant mechanisms, infectious and inflammatory processes and applications of electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR) in biomedicine. She received the title of Fellow of the SFRBM (Society for Redox Biology and Medicine) (2000), the Medal for Biology of the International EPR Society (2002), the title of Adhonorum Professor at the Faculdad de Medicina, Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay (2006), the title of ?Comendador? of the Brazilian Order of Scientific Merit (2006), the "Rheinboldt-Hauptmann" Prize (2018), the "Brazilian Women in Chemistry (Academic Leader) Prize from American Chemical Society/Sociedade Brasileira de Química (2022) and the "2022 Lifetime Achievement Award" from the Society for Redox Biology & Medicine. She is member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (since 2002), the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (since 2011) and the TWAS (World Academy of Sciences) (since 2011). She was one of the Associate Editors of Free Radical Biology & Medicine from 2013-2018 and is the author of the educational book ?Radicais livres: bons maus e naturais? (Free radicals: Good, bad and natural). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
