Full Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB) at the University of São Paulo (USP). He coordinates the Laboratory of Neuroendocrinology and Metabolism (LaNeM; https://sites.usp.br/lanem/). He holds a master's degree in Food Sciences (2002-2005) and a doctorate in Morphofunctional Sciences (2005-2008) from the University of São Paulo, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (2008-2011). His research focuses on how neural circuits that regulate energy and glucose homeostasis are affected by the action of various hormones, such as leptin and GH, among others. He has published more than 180 scientific articles, including more than 75 as last/senior author. José Donato Jr. has advised 10 doctoral theses, four master's students, and nine postdoctoral fellows. He has received several national and international awards, including a Return Home Fellowship (from IBRO), Early Investigators Awards (from the Endocrine Society), ASPIRE Young Investigator Research Awards in Endocrinology (from Pfizer Inc.), the 2019 Excellence Award for New Leadership in Research (from the University of São Paulo), and advisor for the winning thesis award for Outstanding Thesis in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2019). He is currently coordinating his third FAPESP Thematic Research Grant and is a principal investigator at the INCT (National Institute of Translational Neuroscience). He is a member of the Advisory Committee (BF) Biophysics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neurosciences of the CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development). He is a member of several scientific societies, including the Endocrine Society, the Society for Neuroscience, the Pan American Neuroendocrine Society, the European Society of Endocrinology, and the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is currently an associate editor of the journal Endocrinology and head of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
