Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Medicina (FM)  (Institutional affiliation for the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (1984) and doctorate in Physiology and Biophysics from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at USP (1995). He is currently an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. He works at FMUSP, Hospital das Clínicas, FMUSP and Hospital Universitário, FMUSP. He has experience in the field of Medicine, with an emphasis on Clinical Emergencies. The central area of research is sepsis involving the following sub-themes, divided into two major sectors: 1- Septic shock, inflammation, tissue damage, multiple organ failure, metabolic changes, production of free radicals and activation of PARP; 2- in another line, there are studies on LPS tolerance, immunological regulation, gene expression and lymphocyte apoptosis / necrosis.
