I employ an active transdisciplinary approach that aligns with the principles of One Health, a discipline focused on the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. Throughout my career, I have devoted myself to unravelling the intricate interplay between changes in natural landscape composition and the complex array of predisposing factors in our modern world, which create opportunities for the emergence of infectious diseases that can be transmitted from wildlife to humans. My contributions to the field of One Health science can be succinctly summarized through four pillars of research: (i) the eco-epidemiology of zoonotic viruses capable of spillover into human populations, (ii) exploring virus discovery and analyzing the evolutionary patterns of zoonotic viruses, (iii) the ecology and dynamics of populations of natural reservoir hosts for zoonotic diseases, and (iv) immunological approaches to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between viruses and their hosts.
